American
Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
The largest organization for teachers
of all foreign languages, ACTFL publishes a journal (Foreign Language
Annals), holds an annual meeting, has an oral proficiency testing
program, offers seminars, and many other services for language
teachers.
Association of Departments
of Foreign Languages (ADFL)
Addresses the professional concerns of administrators
from nearly 1,000 departments at two- and four-year colleges and
universities. Site contains policy statements, results of surveys
on student demographics, links to a brochure for use in promoting
language study, and more.
American
Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL)
AAAL members promote principled approaches to
language-related concerns, including language education, bilingualism,
language for special purposes, second and foreign language pedagogy,
language assessment, and language policy and planning.
Language
Resource Centers
Site contains links to the 14 national foreign
language resource centers funded by the US Department of Education.
The purpose of the centers is to improve the teaching and learning
of foreign languages.

SCOLT (Southern
Conference on Language Teaching)
SCOLT is one of five regional affiliates
of ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages).
It sponsors an annual conference and publishes an annual volume
containing selected Proceedings of each year's conference. It
also offeres scholarships for study abroad opportunities in French,
German, and Spanish.

Association of Georgia)
FLAG is the official professional organization
for foreign languages in Georgia. The FLAG Journal and
the FLAG Features newsletter are the official publications
of FLAG. FLAG sponsors the following organizations and events:
Annual FLAG Conference, the Spoken Language Competition, the FLES
Contest, FLAG Teacher of the Year, and the Academic Alliances
in Georgia.
GCLL (Georgia
Coalition for Language Learning)
An advocacy and lobbying group for the
support of foreign language learning in the state of Georgia.

Organization
A lobbying group for Georgia teachers.

National:
American
Association of Teachers of French (AATF)
The largest national association of French
teachers in the world. AATF represents French teachers at all
levels, publishes a journal, sponsors an annual conference, and
more.

Chapter (AATF)
Membership is combined with the national AATF.
The Georgia chapter offers two meetings a year, a discussion group,
and an immersion weekend for students.

National/International:
The American
Association of Teachers of German (AATG)
Individual membership organization dedicated to
the advancement and improvement of the language, literature, and
culture of the German-speaking countries. The AATG is for teachers
of German at all levels of instruction and all those interested
in the teaching of German.
Goethe-Institut/Internationes
The largest organization for German cultural politics
abroad. Funded by the German government, the Goethe-Institut and
its partners organize cultural programs and offer German language
courses and teaching materials.

Georgia Chapter: State
chapter of AATG that seeks to promote and improve the teaching
of German in Georgia, and to encourage a spirit of cooperation
and fellowship among its members. Site includes information on
local German conferences and events.

Atlanta
Local branch of the Goethe-Institut/Internationes
that offers workshops and seminars, internationally recognized
exams, and teaching materials.
Friends
of Goethe, Inc., Atlanta
A non-profit organization that offers German language
classes at the Goethe-Institut Atlanta. Supports the institute’s
art and cultural programs, as well as its library.

American
Classical League (ACL)
The principal national organization for teachers
of Latin, Greek, and classical humanities at all levels, from
grade school to graduate school. ACL has annual teacher-friendly
institutes each June; publishes The Classical Outlook, the nation's
most widely circulated Classics journal and the only one focused
primarily on pedagogical topics; and offers a wide range of scholarships
for students, teachers, and prospective teachers.
American
Philological Association
The APA, while oriented especially toward college
and university level teachers, hosts annual meetings including
sessions devoted to classroom teaching at all levels and offers
a growing range of opportunities for P-12 Latin teachers.
Regional:
Classical
Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS)
This regional association, which includes over
30 states and Canadian provinces, provides opportunities for teachers
of Latin, Greek, and classical humanities at all levels, P-12
through university. The organization has annual meetings, plus
biennial meetings of its Southern Section; publishes The Classical
Journal, which contains articles on literary, historical, and
pedagogical topics; and offers a wide range of scholarships for
students, teachers, and prospective teachers.

The state's professional organization for teachers
of Latin, Greek, and classical humanities at all levels, P-12
through university; there are annual meetings, a twice-yearly
newsletter, The Georgia Classicist, and scholarship and award

The largest association dedicated to the teaching
of Spanish and Portuguese and to professional development. AATSP
sponsors the National Spanish Examination and many scholarship
opportunities for teachers.

National Foreign Language Center, Washington, D.C.
Links and several modules relating to the Spanish
language and Spanish-speaking countries as well as to Hispanic
culture in the US.
